Common Causes Of Damage To Filter Compensation Capacitors

Feb 06, 2024 Leave a message

Filter compensation capacitors, which are widely used by many companies in modern electronic equipment, are one of the important components to ensure the normal operation of the circuit. However, these capacitors are often damaged during use, affecting the performance and stability of the circuit. What is the reason for this?
1. Voltage overload
The filter compensation capacitor will withstand a certain voltage when working, but long-term excessive voltage overload will cause damage to the capacitor. This is usually caused by unreasonable circuit design or external interference. For example, under a sudden increase in current or an overload state, the voltage applied to the capacitor may exceed its rated voltage, causing internal dielectric breakdown, short circuit, or leakage of the capacitor.
2. Temperature changes
Temperature changes are another factor that can cause damage to filter compensation capacitors. The internal medium of the capacitor expands or contracts with changes in temperature. Long-term exposure to high or low temperatures may cause damage to the internal structure of the capacitor. Especially under conditions outside the operating temperature range, capacitors may not function properly or fail prematurely.
3. Voltage leakage
Voltage leakage is one of the common causes of capacitor damage. Due to defects in the capacitor's internal structure or materials, part of the charge may be lost, causing the capacitance value of the capacitor to decrease or lose its function. Voltage leakage is also related to temperature. The voltage leakage rate of capacitors in high temperature environments is higher.
4. Vibration and impact
In some special working environments, capacitors are often subject to vibration and impact, which is also one of the causes of damage. Vibration and impact can cause the internal structure of the capacitor to loosen, crack, or break the solder joints, causing the capacitor to fail.
Damage to filter capacitors is mainly caused by voltage overload, temperature changes, voltage leakage, vibration and impact. In order to effectively prevent the occurrence of these problems, the circuit should be designed rationally, the appropriate capacitor model should be selected, and corresponding protective measures should be taken.
