The reactive power compensation composite switch technology is to use thyristors in parallel with relay contacts. The thyristors are used to achieve voltage zero crossing input and current zero crossing cutoff, and the relay contacts are used to pass continuous current. This avoids the conduction loss problem of thyristors and the surge current when capacitors are input. However, the composite switch technology uses both thyristors and relays, making the structure quite complex, and due to the sensitivity of thyristors to dv/dt, they are also relatively easy to damage.
