Why Do Low-voltage Cabinets Need Capacitor Compensation

In the low-voltage distribution section, there are input cabinets, output cabinets, and of course, capacitor compensation cabinets.

So what is the function of capacitor compensation cabinets? It means that they play a role in capacitor compensation.

First, let's take a look at the principle of capacitor compensation.

When capacitor compensation is used, the capacitor and the load are connected in parallel, and the capacitor is like a battery. When the load increases, due to the internal resistance of the power supply, the output voltage of the power supply will decrease. As the two ends of the capacitor need to maintain the original voltage, a part of the electricity in the capacitor needs to flow out, which delays the downward trend of voltage. This is the principle of capacitor compensation.

Let's take a closer look at why capacitor compensation is necessary for low-voltage cabinets.
In low-voltage power systems, there are devices such as electric motors and other devices with coils, as well as reactors. These devices take a portion of the current from the line to do work, but also consume a certain amount of inductor current from the line, which requires an additional increase in the current on the line. Power factor is used to measure the current that does not do work. When the inductor current is 0, the power factor is equal to 1. As the proportion of inductor current gradually increases, the power factor gradually decreases. Obviously, the lower the power factor, the greater the additional burden on the line, and the additional burden on generators, power transformers, and distribution equipment is also greater. This not only reduces the utilization rate of the line and power equipment, but also increases the power loss on the line and voltage loss. Reduce the quality of power supply. Therefore, the power factor should be increased. The most convenient way to improve power factor is to parallel capacitors, which generate capacitive current to offset inductive current and reduce the so-called reactive current that does not do work to a certain range. Reactive power supply, like active power supply, is an indispensable part of ensuring power quality. Reactive power balance should be maintained in the power system. Otherwise, it will cause a decrease in system voltage, equipment damage, power factor, and in severe cases, voltage collapse, system cracking, and large-scale power outages. Therefore, solving the problem of insufficient reactive power capacity in the power grid, installing reactive power compensation equipment, and improving the power factor of the network are of great significance for reducing losses, saving electricity, and ensuring safe and reliable operation of the power grid.
